About Lesac

Long Eaton Sub Aqua Club branch number 0834 of the British Sub Aqua Club was formed in 1975. The club is generally quite active throughout the year. Being close to Stoney Cove we have the opportunity to keep diving all year round.

Much of our diving is around the UK with some overseas.  Trips are frequently planned for UK Liveaboard boats, day boats, and our own RIB's. Favourite locations are the west coast of Scotland, the south coast, Ireland, St. Abbs, the Farne Islands, South Wales, Anglesey, with occasional trips to new locations.

Overseas trips are often organised; the Red Sea is a frequent venue but trips to Indonesia, Malaysia, the Maldives are not uncommon. Galapagos and Papua New Guinea are also in the planning for a couple of members.

We pride ourselves on our safety record, which we believe originates from the excellent training our new members receive.

We have members with a diverse interest in different types of diving, some into marine life, some into wrecks, some into underwater photography, and others who just enjoy being underwater.

LESAC currently has a dedicated and steadily increasing core of members. Our members dive regularly throughout the year, and our instructors teach a range of courses from entry level through to some very specialised qualifications.

Members of LESAC are focused and committed to building up the branch, and the committee are actively campaigning to increase our membership and lift the profile of the club.

The club has two fully equipped Tornado Rigid Inflatable Boats. These are an ideal diving platform and give us the opportunity to dive up to 15 miles off shore. Many of our members are qualified to operate these boats. We can accomodate up to six divers on each boat.

We also often charter day boats and liveaboards depending on the diving we have planned. We tend to charter the bigger boats when we wish to dive further afield or we have a need to dive with more equipment than we can comfortably fit on our RIB's.

Members qualifications range from the highest diving and instructor qualification achievable to our entry level divers.

The branch has maintained a high profile within the diving community and the BSAC, two East Midlands Regional Coaches have come from the ranks of the branch, (Howard Wagstaff, who retired from diving a few years ago and Pete Church, Pete is still a member, and very active diver, and also a senior instructor with the Instructor Training Scheme and a National Diving Committee member). 3 or 4 members have also been involved with teaching on the East Midlands Coaching Team in past years.

The branch has a good team of qualified instructors who enthusiastically teach our entry level divers each year, and teach others members to progress to the higher diving qualifications.

We can offer a wide range of courses in branch and together with the Centre of Excellence we have an affliation with, we can offer the full range of BSAC courses. Click on the link to see what courses we can offer LESAC Courses.

Our training is of an excellent standard always progressing at a pace dictated by our trainees.

Though we achieve a high level of quality in our training, we also try really hard to make it fun and enjoyable. We also welcome divers from other branches and organisations.

We also try to maintain a good social aspect to the branch, with presentations and slide shows and the occasional evening out.
